Is the token system cheaper? KPLC demystified the cost of the postpaid system compared to the prepaid system. The utility firm averred that the cost of a unit token is equal to the price of a meter unit. "Some people believe the old meter system has higher rates per unit than the token. No. The cost is the same, whether prepaid or postpaid," the company assured.

What to do in case your token meter is stolen Kenya Power advised extra caution to customers already using token meters, urging them to report any incident of theft to the relevant authority. "For a stolen meter, report to the nearest police station and bring the abstract to Kenya Power banking halls. Once investigations are concluded, a new meter will be assigned," said KPLC. 

How many KPLC customers will connect to token system During the year ending December 2023, the utility firm increased its customer base by 13.87% to 9,454,819 users. KPLC managing director Joseph Siror attributed the growth in customers to the availability of smart meters, which the company is now using to connect new customers.
