Goods destroyed as fire guts 4-storey buildings in Lagos market.

Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed in a fire outbreak that consumed storey buildings in Dosumu Market, Idumota, Lagos Island.

According to traders, the fire, which started at 47, Dosunmu Street, escalated to three other buildings at 45, 47, 49A and 49B on the same street.

When Vanguard got to the scene, the main building, 47, where the fire started had collapsed as a result of the impact of the fire.

Some of the responders at the scene include the LASEMA Response team at Lekki alongside LRU Fire, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Men, Nigerian Ports Authority Firemen, LASAMBUS officials, LNSC officials, CBD crew and Nigeria Police Force, under the supervision of the Commissioner for Special Duties and IGR, Mr Gbenga Oyerinde.

However, the rescue team had a serious challenge getting water to contain the inferno.

Confirming the incident, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary LASEMA said: “Investigation revealed that the immediate cause of the fire was due to a power surge after electricity was restored. The responders are combating the fire to prevent further escalation to other adjoining buildings.”
